Yukihira coffee - Yamagata

I had a few days left on my Seishun juhachi kippu and I was wondering where to go for a trip. I looked at my google maps and spotted a place I marked. It was a coffee shop in Yamagata...

The weather wasn't very pleasant - it was a grey day and I wasn't in mood for anything. However I took a train and once I was in the middle of mountains between Miyagi and Yamagata, the atmosphere started to get inspiring. I could feel the spirits of old haiku masters and beasts dreaming in the mountains.

It started snowing on the way to the coffee place, so I was happy when I could sit down in a tiny cozy coffee shop. Artsiness was in the air, I took out my markers and started to blend colours while I was sipping delicious coffee.
A moment later, I was the only customer in shop and took the chance to talk to the owners. It was a very lovely couple with which we had a great conversation about coffee, manga and art. She was organizing weddings where she met many people, but she never really had a chance to talk to them.  They started to participate in various things about three years ago. About one year+ ago she got the opportunity to open her own coffee shop with her husband and they did. Now they have many opportunities to engage with people.
Their idea was to make this shop a little flag in the middle of an unknown city, so the drivers stop by and discover the area and enjoy the beautiful mountain view. Make sure to visit them if you have a chance to go to Yamagata.

In a way, I wasn't lucky, because I couldn't see the all the gorgeous mountains, however, it gave me a great "excuse" to come back. I still think it was a great trip - delicious coffee and hazy views of mountains which reminded me of old japanese ukio-e.
